Summary:
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and Walmart with support from the Los Angeles County Chief Executive Office, Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Community and Senior Services (CSS), American Red Cross, and Ready America will be partnering at the Torrance Walmart to educate individuals, families, and persons with disabilities and others with access and functional needs about disaster preparedness and the protective measures they need to follow during an earthquake. Nearly 300 Walmart stores located in the states of Alaska, California, and Hawaii are participating in the Great ShakeOut “Drop, Cover and Hold On” earthquake preparedness drill, Thu., Oct. 17, 2013.

Scheduled to be on display at the Torrance Walmart parking lot area will be a Cal OES fire engine, Los Angeles County CSS Adult Protective Services Information Assistance van, and Los Angeles County Operational Area Alternate Emergency Operations Center vehicle. Also, Ready America is providing 50 preparedness kits and will demonstrate how to use them.
