CLAUDE BROWN ELEMENTARY TO HOST STATE, LOCAL OFFICIALS FOR EARTHQUAKE PRESENTATION, SHAKEOUT DRILL Media invited to observe and interview participants and disaster preparedness officials

(Troy), Mo. — Thursday, October 17th at 10:17 a.m., more than half a million Missourians will participate in the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut earthquake drill. During the drill, participants practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On,” the recommended safety procedure to take during an earthquake.

Claude Brown Elementary will hold an open-to-the-media ShakeOut drill and demonstration at 711 West College St., Troy, MO. During the demonstration, disaster preparedness officials from Local, State, and Federal Government organizations, including Steve Besemer, regional coordinator for Missouri Emergency Management Agency, will be on hand to:

- Talk with students about the importance of earthquake and disaster safety

- Demonstrate proper earthquake safety techniques

- Discuss the earthquake risk in Missouri

A presentation to all fourth grade students will begin directly following the 10:17 a.m. school-wide ShakeOut drill. Following the drill, officials and students will be available for media interviews.

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 17 from 10:15 - 10:45 a.m. (media should be onsite around 10:00 a.m.)
