This seismic safety seminar is for school district administrators, county education officials, PTA leaders, school preparedness coordinators, teachers, and others in southern California interested in school safety.

The seminar kicks off school participation in the Great Southern California ShakeOut, the largest-ever earthquake drill, on November 13, 2008.
  • Over 90% of Californians are not prepared for a major earthquake. Learn what scientists believe will happen in a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the San Andreas fault, which may happen any time, and what you should do now to prepare.
  • Who's Participating?
    Attendees by county:
    Los Angeles - 190
    Orange - 54
    Riverside - 30
    San Bernardino - 30
    Other - 20
    Imperial - 10
    San Diego - 5
    Ventura - 2
    Santa Barbara - 1
  • Be among the first to register your school(s) to participate in the ShakeOut, and your school may qualify for special benefits like interactive earthquake exhibits, media events, celebrity appearances, free family materials and more!
  • April 10, 2008, is the 75th anniversary of California’s Field act, which requires strict building standards for schools. While most school buildings are very safe, items inside can fall and cause injury and damage. Learn what can be done to mitigate these and other hazards.
  • Schools are vital resources for their communities during disasters. Get easy-to-implement educational materials for your school’s students and their families. Also, get materials on Disaster Service Worker Status and how to keep your school personnel on the job.

Refreshments will be provided. An online agenda is now available.

Registration for this event is closed.
