Stories From The Great ShakeOut

Jan Harris
(Campus Security - Silver Springs High School)

Silver Springs High School, Sierra Foothill, NCAL, and HeadStart (our infant toddler center) all participated in the Great Shake Out Drill. We made this a fun "event", by putting a certificate for a gift card under (1) desk in each classroom, and if the entire class participated they received a coupon for either one or two free pizza(s) for the entire class.

In addition, we sent out an "all-call" the night before letting parents know about the drill. Teachers were given handouts, a short presentation was made in each classroom the day before explaining the drill and what was expected of them.

On the day of the drill, Mike Blake (principal) and other staff members volunteered to verify each classroom had been actively involved in the drill. There was a 2:45 second Emergency Broadcast drill downloaded and played over the paging system at exactly 10:15 am today. This was in conjunction with the nationwide awareness program.

Numerous photos were taken during this drill showing participation :)
