Sr. Sharon Lamprecht This was an excellent re-enactment of an earthquake drill with students in Preschool through eighth grade. Our preschoolers are three years of age. The "Drop and Cover" Drill began and the teachers took over from there. A few minutes later, when the teacher was giving directions to leave the classroom, the after-shock was announced. The teachers gave the directions and immediately students followed the drill. Out on the field everyone knew where there respective areas were, but the sweep and rescue team forgot a student. It was so good the student was in shock and could not respond. She was just perfect in her role. I think this drill is an excellent beginning of the earthquake drills for our school year. We practice every other month, alternating with our fire drill. This year, we have arrived at a few suggestions we would like to implement. The first implementation will be to use our "turf" field, so that even if the weather is not too great or the other field is wet, this one will be dry. This field, also has the most accesses to it from the freeway, the streets, etc. Overall, this was an excellent drill. We will put our "porta-potties" and our (critically injured) in our grassy area on the adjacent field away from the overall traffic. Thank you so much for this opportunity. So much is learned from these major drills each year. Keep California strong with drills...protect our children first! Thank you, Sister Sharon Maria, ODN |
