Richard Rosas Here is an email from ICS captain Mark Legasie: Today's Shakeout drill was the best CERT/ACS comm drill I have ever attended. The Hermon CERT team learned so much about how to coordinate and work together as a team, as well as relay messages via FRS and ham radio to ACS volunteers. The CERT Team roved around Hermon and reported in via FRS Channel 3 a collapsed bridge in Hermon over the 110 fwy, collapsed buildings, 2 residential fires, and 2 water main breaks on Monterey Rd (just to name a few). The Hermon IC (stationed at the Hermon Emergency Village at LAICHS) then transmitted these incidents to the LAFD's ACS unit via ham radio. The message logs we kept are attached in case you're interested. Thanks to Hans & Rick for their ingenuity in dreaming up great scenarios to surprise us and to the ACS staff I transmitted info to. And many thanks to Marty, John and Dan from ACS for their invaluable help in relaying messages and ensuring comm with FS 12 is possible from our Hermon location! The whole idea was brilliant and I hope we can do another soon. Mark Legassie Public Safety Cmte, Chair Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council asncpublicsafety@gmail.com El Sereno Middle School completed their drill without problem. Buschnell way Principal Nery Piaz postponed their drill. Mr. Piaz and i had agreed at last years drill that we will have a "missing child search and rescue" drill this year and will also play the "audio" over the PA system. I will post the results after the drill. For next years drill lets see if international emergency responders will participate. Richard Rosas descriptivemind@sbcglobal.net 323.344.1805 |
